Good-By to a BIG part of my life MEMORIES

Poetry Jam

809

Mom and Dad choose
this
family home in 1962
50 years as home base
so
it
is
HARD
to say “GOOD-BY” to 809

I have packed photos from my high school years,
through tears
I have packed photos of my college days
the cloths then ...to amaze!
I have put away pictures of my kids at grandmas house
at
Easters and Christmas and many Birthday cheers!
over the years....
wow
how
one
room
can change...strange!!
THE kids grew up here at grandmas house ...what fun back then!
THEN
to my dis like at the time
this home had to became mine
grandma and grandpa
or
mom and dad to me
had to move to more assisted living so....
and
the house
choose
me!
NOW
I HAVE TO SAY...Wow
“Thank You Home for 10 years of time”
ALMOST AS HARD
ON
MY MIND
as
my body !!!

to move and leave here....Cheers!

  2. Homes hold such memories, don't they? My parents lived in the same house from the time I was born until they died. For me, if I picture 'home' this is still the 'home' my mind conjures....my childhood home. It was so hard, after the deaths, to prepare it for sale and sell it. So many 'things' there, so many memories. When I go to the city of my childhood, I still very often drive past this house....and feel warm inside from all of my experiences there.

I think I feel in your poem both the sadness and the relief....I do GET that!

  3. Our childhood homes will remain forever in our memories, but it is sometimes hard to let them go. Good luck on your move!

  6. What family history in that one house. Such stability for your kids, all their memories in one place.........very hard - saying goodbye to an era, to a way of life.........to so much history. I hope the new place brings you new beginnings.

  8. Saying goodbye to 'home base' can be as wrenching as it is liberating ... and oh, the effing packing that needs to be done ... ugh!

  9. Cool the way your lines form repetitious shapes of hourglass. Long time, 50 years, enough to become a big part of us, our psyche.

  11. That is very difficult to pack away those memories and leave home base. I love your rhyming scheme, it was very fun--conversational with the narrative :-) Great poem!
