Shades of Black and White

Poetry Jam
look in or looking out                  Gray Shades

Hospitals are not fun places
Not comfortable spaces
Not a place I want my head
In an universally uncomfortable bed

Hospitals are white and color
To much care and smother
To many tubes and meds
In the button that flashes red

I'd rather erase the shades of gray
Have all pain go away
Have Color in the world with yellow and blue
the all the sun shining through

There are times for black and white
Beautiful times between day and night
Beautiful gray may be the perfect way
To start the night or end the day

Erase the hospital kind of gray

Give me a sunrise to start the day
Through the window of my eye
Please let the color pass on by
If I look in or if I look out
I really want to took about

Not on a road of gray like to day
........ not really any shade of gray.........
I want to look out  at the color that is there
share, care,
I want to close the window on the gray
today with color play!

  1. There is so much here to think about. I hope you don't actually have someone in the hospital right now (and I agree they are not places you want to spend time). I much prefer color as well! Thanks for posting.

    Have all pain go away
Have Color in the world with yellow and blue
the all the sun shining through"

  5. The colour of life is so much more than a world of black & white. Seeing what is beyond the boundaries of our minds. This is very challenging

  6. Rae, I empathize, my poem is about too much hospital time, you did a brilliant write here! A piece of art, the way you wove photos and words. Gorgeous. Prayers and love for your stepson. <3

  7. Thinking of you and your stepson, Rae. Hope that he will soon be well enough to go home. It really is hard to spend a lot of time in the hospital...and I hope that he will get OUT soon.

  8. When one is in hospital, looking out and thinking of life 'outside' is one of the rare things one can do. Prayers and thoughts are with you and your family.

  10. It's sad how institutions like hospitals can, at times, completely erase the concept of exteriority.

  11. The use of colour, pics, and the thoughtful words makes this post so awesome. As I was bedridden for 3 months on a hospital bed, I echoed the same feelings. Neatly done!
