Loosing Local
Lost
All unknown
No memories here
I Moved
I Moved
I knew the streets
The trees had names
but
things there changed
as
all things do
more then 50 years in one hometown
a move makes it not easy to turn around
And here
to much is new
I do not know what to do
can’t return to what I had
things here are not so bad
But
what can I say is local now
tears I guess have joined the spaces
of
trees with names and local places
just to much new
before the night again becomes the day
lost no memories here I say
change is needed but
comes with a cost
local is lost
PS
I guess there is one part
A river runs through
both old and new
and
that holds my heart
so local IS HERE
and
it runs
between the trees and over the ground
LOCAL CAN BE FOUND
Wherever we go we carry our home within us, i love the truth that local is in the heart not the location. Nicely done.
ReplyDelete"change is needed but / comes with a cost"...how true is this!!!...i absolutely agree with you...and then there is that part where LOCAL never parts...beautiful...
ReplyDeleteaha, even with the changes, memories stay
ReplyDeletemuch love...
moving can be so hard...you lose those attachments...but also all the history, the knowing what to expect...where to find things....its comfort...and it takes a while to develop in new places....
ReplyDeletei know the nostalgia that accompanies moving... well written
ReplyDeleteAgree with you. Change comes with a cost.
ReplyDeleteWe always wish to find a point of reference & think that things will be just as the way we knew... We are in for a shock. Thankfully, some matches are found :)
Nicely expressed!
I can imagine the newness after 50 years in one place. That is a beautiful river in the photo...hopefully, in time, local will begin to feel more familiar.
ReplyDeleteYes I agree local can be found though moving is a jarring thing--especially after you have live somewhere 50 years. I have now lived here in our town for about that long--though we did live abroad for a couple of years. It would be hard to leave for good.
ReplyDeleteI really like the connector between the old and the new being a river. It definitely is hard to change, but I think after a while we adjust. At least that is the hope.
ReplyDeleteRae Ann, I almost did not comment on your poem this week....as I saw that you were one who did not comment on others (last week or this week). Hey, each of us likes comments as much as you do...and truly it doesn't take THAT much time.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of the river being a connecting source between old and new.
