Skip A Rope
A simpler time it was
when I was young
because…
things were slower then
when I was young
I think Hover was president
No worries for me but the time just went
Then many years with “Ike”
I learned to crawl and ride a bike
No cell phones or Internet
but mom knew where I went
The time was set to come home
I could walk home alone
Family time was every night
It felt good and just right
School, scouts, and church were weekly stuff
life was predictable and fun ...not tough
The 50s and 60s in the Midwest
were some of the best
bikes, roller skates (with a key),
jump rope, hula hoops, black and white TV
I had a joyful young life
no real strife
Riches were counted in pennies and dimes
we all had such sweet times
After
Kennedy was president
Off to college I went
now
the 70 came and changed the rhymes
and
it seems the world has lost those Innocent Times
"we all had such sweet times"...i can relate to that...
ReplyDeleteLife did seem simpler then and children were often more able to enjoy simple things than now.
ReplyDeleteInnocent times - Looking back always makes us wonder, i am never to sure it was better just different. Love the way this works.
ReplyDeleteIt is fun to look back and see what life was like back then. I remember walking everywhere as well, and that was fun!
ReplyDeleteThose were the times I grew up in as well--roller skating with a key, hula hoops, jumping rope--I remember them fondly. (though I was in California). Thanks for taking me back.
ReplyDeleteWow very nice post here.
ReplyDeleteRae,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the journey through your life, with this poem. A very pleasant journey indeed...I agree with your thinking about the loss of innocence these days..Not quite so easily enjoyed, I believe.

A lovely reminiscence of childhood here. The end of innocence is sad.
